Course Overview
UBC's BSc Environmental Sciences is a four-year interdisciplinary degree taught out of the Vancouver campus, ranked top 5 globally for Environmental Sciences in the QS World University Rankings by Subject. Students pick one of seven concentrations after Year 2 — Ecology and Conservation, Land, Air and Water, Sustainable Soil and Land Use, Environment and Society, Biology and Earth Sciences, or Environmental Toxicology — and complete a senior research thesis tied to UBC's working forests, salmon labs, or the Beaty Biodiversity Museum collections.
Sri Lankan applicants choose UBC because Vancouver is one of the world's leading hubs for green tech, climate finance and Pacific marine science. The university maintains its own 5,000-hectare Malcolm Knapp Research Forest, working alpine alpine field stations, and the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre on Vancouver Island where students complete a semester of field work. Graduates are eligible for the Canadian Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) for up to 3 years.
