Bachelor of Science (Environmental Science)
University of Toronto
Course Overview
The University of Toronto is ranked #21 globally in QS World Rankings and #11 globally for Environmental Sciences in QS World Rankings by Subject. The Honours BSc Environmental Science is offered across UofT's three campuses (St. George downtown, Scarborough, Mississauga) and combines core ecology, environmental chemistry, hydrology and atmospheric science with specialised streams in Conservation Biology, Climate Change Science, Environment & Health, Environmental Toxicology, and Environmental Geosciences. Students complete a research thesis or a co-op placement in years 3-4 with hosts like Environment and Climate Change Canada, Ontario Ministry of Environment, and WWF-Canada.
Sri Lankan applicants — particularly those motivated by Sri Lanka's climate vulnerability, coastal erosion, deforestation, and the international climate finance landscape — choose UofT for the research depth, the co-op pipeline, and the post-study work / PR opportunity. Graduates qualify for the 3-year Post-Graduation Work Permit and Express Entry pathway. Returnees feed into the Climate Change Secretariat (MoE Sri Lanka), Asian Development Bank's environment portfolio, and World Bank Climate Investment Funds.
