Course Overview
SUTD's BEng in Engineering Product Development (EPD) is a hands-on, multidisciplinary engineering degree that combines mechanical, electrical and software engineering with design thinking. Sri Lankan students interested in robotics, IoT, mechatronics, or hardware-software products end up here rather than a single-discipline mechanical or electrical program — the maker culture and prototyping hours are unusually deep.
The first 3 terms (freshmore year) are shared with the other SUTD pillars, after which students join EPD. The curriculum is studio-based, with FabLab access for CNC, laser cutting, 3D printing and PCB fabrication, and a year-long capstone with industry partners like Dyson, Continental, and PSA.
Entry Requirements
Academic
- check_circle A-Levels: AAB or higher with Mathematics and Physics (or Chemistry).
- check_circle Sri Lankan Local A-Levels (Physical Science / Bio-Maths stream) with strong grades accepted — counsellor will map your subjects.
- check_circle IB Diploma: 38+ points with Mathematics HL and Physics HL preferred.
- check_circle SAT (optional): 1450+ composite, Math 750+.
English Proficiency
- check_circle IELTS Academic: 6.5 Overall.
- check_circle TOEFL iBT: 90 Overall.
- check_circle Waived if your A-Levels or prior degree were taught in English (most Sri Lankan applicants qualify).

Career Outcomes & PR
EPD graduates work as product, mechatronics, robotics and hardware engineers at Dyson, Continental, PSA, Garmin, ST Engineering, Razer and SUTD-spawned startups. The MOE Tuition Grant comes with a 3-year service bond to work in a Singapore-registered company — which is the direct EP/S-Pass pathway.
