Bachelor of Tourism (BTour)
University of Otago
Course Overview
The University of Otago is New Zealand's oldest university and one of its most research-intensive, and its Bachelor of Tourism is taught from Dunedin within a country whose entire economy showcases the subject — New Zealand is a global benchmark for sustainable, nature-based, and adventure tourism. The degree blends tourism management, destination and visitor-experience design, sustainable and indigenous (Māori) tourism, marketing, and the economics of the visitor economy, with field trips that use New Zealand's landscapes and operators as a live classroom. Otago's collegiate campus and strong student support make it a welcoming choice for international students.
Sri Lankan applicants — coming from a country where tourism is a pillar industry — find Otago's sustainability focus and practical orientation directly transferable to Sri Lanka's eco- and adventure-tourism ambitions. Most Sri Lankan A-Level applicants meet entry directly, and English-medium qualifications can satisfy the language requirement. New Zealand offers eligible graduates a post-study work visa of up to three years, and an Otago tourism degree opens careers in destination management, hospitality, and the visitor economy both in New Zealand and on return to Sri Lanka's growing sector.
