A formal admission letter from an Austrian public or private university recognised by BMBWF.
Proof of Funds
€14,604/year (under 24) or €17,720/year (24+) in personal or sponsor account. Notarised sponsor affidavit if not in your name.
Accommodation Evidence
A rental contract or student dormitory booking (ÖJAB, OEAD-Housing) for the first months in Austria.
Health Insurance
EU-recognised cover for the duration. Austrian e-card public health enrolment is typically required after 6 months.

The embassy refers your file to MA35 (Vienna immigration office) or the relevant local Magistrat for the actual residence permit decision.

Decision
Decision in 8–16 weeks total. The residence permit card is issued.

Collect residence card after arrival
After arrival in Austria, collect the physical residence permit card from MA35 (Vienna) or the local Magistrat. Register your address (meldezettel) within 3 days.
