Lund University Global Scholarship
The Lund University Global Scholarship is the flagship merit award for non-EU Master's applicants at Lund University, Sweden's highest-ranked traditional university (consistently QS top 100). Awards reduce tuition by 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% — applied across both years of the Master's programme. There is no separate application: every eligible international applicant is automatically ranked. The scholarship targets the strongest candidates across all faculties. Lund has particularly strong English-taught Master's in Economics, International Development, Sustainability, Computer Science, and Bioinformatics. Strong fit for Sri Lankan first-class graduates seeking funded European postgraduate study at a respected research university.

Non-EU/EEA Fee-Paying Citizen
Reserved for citizens from outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland required to pay tuition at Swedish universities. Sri Lankan passport holders are eligible automatically.
Admission to a Lund Master's
You must apply for and be admitted to a Master's programme at Lund University. Almost all Lund Master's programmes are eligible (some specialised research programmes excluded — check programme-specific scholarship pages).
Strong Academic Record
Selection is by academic ranking within each programme. Lund weights undergraduate GPA, programme fit, and a short scholarship motivation statement. Sri Lankan first-class Bachelor's holders from Moratuwa, Colombo, Peradeniya, or Kelaniya present strongly.
English Proficiency
IELTS 6.5 (no band below 5.5) or TOEFL iBT 90+ for most Master's. Lund accepts English-medium Bachelor's degrees from select universities as proof of proficiency — Sri Lankan English-medium Bachelor's degrees may qualify for waiver. Confirm per programme.
account_tree Application Process
Apply via Universityadmissions.se
Submit your Master's application via the central Sweden admissions portal by 15 January 2026. Choose Lund as one of your 4 programme rankings and rank your preferred Lund programme first. Pay the SEK 900 application fee.
Submit the scholarship motivation
After submitting admission, log into the Lund University Scholarship Portal (typically opens early February) and complete the scholarship application — primarily a short motivation statement explaining why you should be awarded.
Programme-level ranking
Each Lund programme independently ranks its admitted international applicants. Top-ranked candidates are awarded scholarships — the tier (25%-100%) depends on your ranking position and the programme's allocation.
Award offer
Scholarship outcomes are typically announced late March-early April. If awarded, the tuition reduction is automatically applied to your invoice. Stackable with SISGP (Swedish Institute Scholarship) where rules permit — confirm with Lund finance team.
Why Lund?

The university hosts ESS (European Spallation Source) and MAX IV — making it a global research hub for materials, life sciences, and engineering. Lund is also a classic Swedish student town with strong cycling culture and easy Copenhagen access.
