MSc Sociology
Lund University
Course Overview
Lund University is one of Scandinavia's oldest and highest-ranked universities, consistently in the global top 100, and its English-taught MSc in Sociology offers a rigorous, theory-rich training grounded in the strong Nordic tradition of welfare-state and inequality research. The two-year programme combines advanced social theory with research-methods training (quantitative and qualitative), and lets students specialise in fields like social policy, work and organisations, migration, gender, and environmental sociology. Lund's collegiate town, world-class research environment (including the MAX IV and ESS facilities nearby), and a culture of independent, seminar-based study make it an outstanding research-preparation degree.
Sri Lankan applicants with a Bachelor's in Sociology, Political Science, Anthropology, Social Work, or related social sciences fit well, and English-medium Sri Lankan degrees can waive the IELTS requirement via an MOI letter. Sweden charges tuition to non-EU students but offsets it with generous scholarships, and graduates may apply to extend their residence permit for up to 12 months to seek work after studies. Lund's brand and the Nordic research network open doors in academia, policy, and the social sector across Europe.
