MSc Political Science
Stockholm University
Course Overview
Stockholm University is one of Europe's leading universities for the social sciences, and its English-taught MSc in Political Science offers advanced training in comparative politics, international relations, political theory, public policy, and political-science research methods. The two-year programme is grounded in the strong Swedish tradition of democracy, governance, and welfare-state research (Stockholm hosts internationally cited research environments and sits near major policy and international institutions). Students build serious methodological skills and complete a substantial master's thesis, making this a strong route into policy analysis, international organisations, and doctoral study.
Sri Lankan applicants with a Bachelor's in Political Science, International Relations, Public Administration, Economics, or related social sciences fit well, and English-medium Sri Lankan degrees can waive the IELTS requirement via an MOI letter. Stockholm is a safe, English-friendly capital with strong links to government, NGOs, and the UN system. Sweden charges non-EU tuition but offers generous scholarships, and graduates may apply to extend their residence permit for up to 12 months to seek work — a clear pathway into European policy and research careers.
