Course Overview
The Sustainable Industrial Engineering track is the English-taught route through the Master in Industrial Engineering co-accredited by Grenoble INP – Génie industriel and Université Grenoble Alpes. It runs two years and 120 ECTS, all lessons are delivered in English, and the programme page states that it is open only to international students — so the cohort is built for people in exactly this position rather than adapted for them. Entry is possible at M1 with a bachelor's, or directly at M2.
The subject is industrial engineering with sustainability as the organising constraint rather than an appended module: production systems and manufacturing engineering, supply chain design and logistics, operations research and optimisation, industrial ecology and life-cycle assessment, circular-economy design, energy efficiency in production, quality and lean systems, and the modelling tools that sit under all of it. Grenoble is France's principal engineering and applied-research city, with a dense cluster around microelectronics, energy and advanced manufacturing, and the FuturProd graduate school provides the PhD route out of the master's.
The application route is specific and needs following exactly. Applications go through the FSA platform, which opens in early November and closes in mid-April, with committee rounds at the start of February, the start of March and mid-April — earlier rounds get earlier decisions and more visa time. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed in English. Applicants from countries covered by Campus France's Études en France procedure must apply through both FSA and the Campus France portal; whether Sri Lanka is in that scheme for your cycle should be confirmed with the Campus France office in Colombo before you start.
Fees need care. The programme publishes €5,171 a year plus the €105 CVEC contribution for non-EU students, but marks those as 2024/25 rates, and no updated figure was published at the time of writing. Because this is a Grenoble INP school rather than a plain UGA faculty, it sits on its own fee schedule and UGA's general non-EU exemption arrangements do not apply to it. Scholarships are described as very few and merit-based. Treat €5,171 as the planning figure and get it confirmed in writing before committing.

Direct M2 entry requires completion of the first year of a compatible master's.

English Proficiency

- check_circle A certificate issued by your own university confirming your level of English is explicitly accepted in place of an IELTS or TOEFL score — a genuine and unusual waiver route for Sri Lankan applicants from English-medium engineering degrees.
- check_circle IELTS Academic 6.0-6.5 or TOEFL iBT 80 comfortably evidences B2 if you prefer to hold a test result, and it strengthens the French student-visa file regardless.
- check_circle No French is required for M1 entry. Direct entry at M2 requires French at B1, which is a substantial difference between the two entry points.
- check_circle French language courses are available and are worth taking for the internship phase and for daily life in Grenoble.

Career Outcomes & PR
France grants master's graduates the Autorisation Provisoire de Séjour (APS), a twelve-month post-study residence permit to look for work or start a business, which converts to a work permit or Talent Passport on a qualifying offer. The programme names project engineer, development and research engineer, environmental consultant, production and supply chain manager, and sustainable industrial engineering consultant among its target roles, with a PhD route through the FuturProd graduate school. Grenoble's industrial base — STMicroelectronics, Schneider Electric, Air Liquide, Soitec, the CEA research centre and the alpine energy sector — is one of the densest engineering employers' clusters in France, and supply-chain and industrial-ecology skills travel across the EU. Sri Lankan returnees route into production, supply chain and sustainability engineering at MAS Holdings, Brandix, Hayleys, Hela Apparel, Tokyo Cement, CBL, Ceylon Electricity Board contractors and the logistics operators around the Port of Colombo, where the life-cycle and circular-economy content is directly relevant to the export sector's compliance demands.
