MSc Health Services Management
University of Malta
Course Overview
University of Malta's MSc Health Services Management is delivered jointly through the Department of Health Services Management within the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy. The 90-ECTS programme runs across three semesters (18 months) and is designed for clinicians and health-system professionals moving into administrative leadership. Core modules cover health systems and policy, healthcare economics, hospital operations management, quality and patient safety, health informatics, leadership and HR in healthcare, and a substantial dissertation. Teaching is in English at the Msida campus, with case studies drawn from the Maltese national health service and EU benchmarks.
Sri Lankan applicants from medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, and health-administration backgrounds (Colombo Faculty of Medicine, Peradeniya, Kelaniya, Ruhuna, SLIIT health informatics, KIU, GenHealth) — particularly those already in registrar / department-head / hospital-admin roles — treat this MSc as a step into senior hospital management. Returnees take Director / Head of Operations / Deputy Director roles at private hospital groups (Asiri Health, Lanka Hospitals, Nawaloka, Hemas, Durdans), Ministry of Health system-strengthening units, and WHO-funded health-system reform projects.
