Master of Public Health
University of Malta
Course Overview
University of Malta's Master of Public Health is delivered through the Department of Public Health within the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. The 90-ECTS programme runs across three semesters (18 months) and combines taught modules in epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy, health economics, health promotion, environmental and occupational health, and global health, with a substantial dissertation in semester three. Teaching is in English at the Msida campus, supported by case studies from Malta's small but EU-integrated public health system.
Sri Lankan applicants from medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, or biomedical Bachelor's backgrounds (Colombo, Peradeniya, Kelaniya, Ruhuna, Jaffna, SAITM-era graduates, KIU pharmacy, plus established Sri Lankan public health professionals) treat this MPH as a route into research, policy, NGO, and WHO-pipeline roles. The 6-month post-study residence permit allows local employment, and the EU Blue Card pathway (~€26,000/yr threshold in 2025) is among the lowest in the EU. Returnees route into the Ministry of Health Sri Lanka, Family Health Bureau, Epidemiology Unit, National Institute of Mental Health, plus NGO and multilateral roles at WHO Sri Lanka, UNICEF, UNFPA, and international research collaborations with the Wellcome Trust, NIHR, and Gates Foundation.
