Course Overview
The University of Amsterdam's MSc Data Science and Business Analytics is a one-year track delivered jointly by the Amsterdam Business School and the Faculty of Science. UvA sits at top-60 globally for Business (QS subject 2026) and top-80 for Computer Science. The programme is taught 100% in English and bridges hard data science (machine learning, deep learning, statistics, optimisation, big data engineering) with business-oriented applications (marketing analytics, financial analytics, operations analytics, HR analytics, supply chain analytics).
Amsterdam is the European tech and consulting capital — Booking.com (Amsterdam HQ), Adyen, Mollie, TomTom, Uber EMEA HQ, Tesla EMEA HQ, Netflix Amsterdam, Spotify Amsterdam, ING, ABN AMRO, Rabobank, plus the consulting cluster (McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Big Four). Most MSc Data Science students complete their thesis (15 ECTS, 6 months) with a corporate partner, often converting directly into a graduate role. The programme is highly internationally diverse (typically 60+ nationalities) and selective — admission targets quantitative bachelor's holders from CS, mathematics, statistics, econometrics or strongly-quantitative business backgrounds.
Entry Requirements
Academic
- check_circle Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Data Science, Physics, Engineering, or a strongly-quantitative business / economics programme — Sri Lankan First or Second Upper (GPA 3.3+).
- check_circle Strong quantitative profile: at least 12 ECTS in mathematics (linear algebra, calculus, probability, statistics) plus 12 ECTS in computer science / programming (Python, R, or Java).

- check_circle Detailed letter of motivation (~800 words) outlining data-science interests.
- check_circle Two academic / professional references.
- check_circle CV evidencing programming projects, internships, or relevant work experience.
English Proficiency
- check_circle IELTS Academic: 6.5 Overall (no band below 6.0).
- check_circle TOEFL iBT: 92 Overall.
- check_circle Cambridge English: C1 Advanced grade C.
- check_circle Waived if your bachelor's degree was taught and assessed entirely in English — Sri Lankan applicants from UoC UCSC, UoM, UoP, SLIIT, NSBM, NIBM, IIT and ICBT qualify with an MOI letter.
