MSc in Data Analytics & Artificial Intelligence
EDHEC Business School
Deadline detail: Rolling admission rounds from the autumn through the spring; places and scholarship budget both thin out in later rounds, so apply early from Sri Lanka
Course Overview
EDHEC's MSc in Data Analytics & Artificial Intelligence is a business school's answer to the data science master's, and it is deliberately positioned that way. You learn to program, to apply statistical methodology, to use the standard data analysis and machine learning toolchain, and to solve real data problems hands-on — but always alongside the business domain knowledge and critical thinking needed to know which problem is worth solving. The programme is directed by a professor of operations management, which tells you something about its orientation: this is analytics for decisions, not analytics as computer science.
EDHEC sits in the top tier of French business schools with triple accreditation and a strong international recruiting position, and the school has invested heavily in its data and AI offering as part of a broader Tech and Data portfolio. Class sizes are moderate, the cohort is international, and the school's careers operation is unusually structured — EDHEC treats placement as a managed process rather than a noticeboard, which matters more for a one-year degree than almost anything in the syllabus.
For a Sri Lankan applicant this is the accessible end of the French data-master's market. Unlike the engineering-school routes, it does not demand a degree in mathematics or computer science — commerce, economics, business and engineering graduates are all admitted, and the programming is taught rather than assumed, though comfort with numbers remains essential. France's APS gives master's graduates a 12-month temporary residence permit to look for work or start a business, and the cost sits well below a comparable UK or US programme. Two things to be honest about: the technical depth here is not the same as at a grande école of engineering, so if your goal is research-grade machine learning this is the wrong door; and while the degree is taught in English, the French job market at analyst level often still expects French, which shapes how the post-study year actually goes.
Entry Requirements
Academic
- check_circle A Bachelor's degree in business, economics, finance, engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related discipline — EDHEC admits across a broader range of backgrounds than the engineering-school data programmes do.
- check_circle Quantitative comfort is expected: statistics and mathematics at undergraduate level, and a willingness to code. Prior programming experience is an advantage but is not always a prerequisite — confirm the current expectation for your intake.
- check_circle Sri Lankan applicants from business and management degrees at Colombo, Sri Jayewardenepura, Moratuwa, NSBM, NIBM, IIT, SLIIT or APIIT, and CIMA, ACCA or CFA-track professionals moving into analytics, are common profiles.
- check_circle GMAT, GRE or the EDHEC-accepted alternative test may be required depending on your background — check what applies to your degree and nationality, as the policy varies by profile.
- check_circle CV, motivation essays, transcripts and references; shortlisted candidates are interviewed, usually online for overseas applicants.
- check_circle Work experience is not required — this is largely a pre-experience master's — but internships or one to three years in a data-adjacent role strengthen a file and improve placement outcomes.
- check_circle An application fee applies, and a deposit is payable to confirm your place after admission.
- check_circle Sri Lankan applicants apply through the Campus France 'Études en France' procedure, including an interview at Campus France Colombo, before the student visa; start this immediately on receiving an offer.
English Proficiency
- check_circle IELTS Academic: 6.5 Overall is the standard requirement for EDHEC's English-taught MSc programmes.
- check_circle TOEFL iBT: 90 Overall.
- check_circle PTE Academic and Cambridge C1 Advanced are also accepted.
- check_circle A waiver is normally available where your prior degree was taught and examined entirely in English — Sri Lankan applicants from English-medium degrees can usually qualify with a Medium of Instruction letter, but obtain written confirmation from admissions.
- check_circle The programme is taught entirely in English and French is not required for admission or graduation.
- check_circle French at A2-B1 is nonetheless the single most useful thing you can add alongside the degree, because it roughly doubles the number of French employers who will consider you during the APS year. EDHEC offers French language courses to international students.

Career Outcomes & PR
France's APS gives master's graduates a 12-month temporary residence permit to seek work or start a business, convertible to a work permit on a qualifying offer, with the EU Blue Card available beyond that for European mobility. The programme leads to data analyst and data scientist roles, and in practice EDHEC graduates land in analytics consulting, business intelligence, marketing and customer analytics, risk analytics in banking and insurance, supply chain and operations analytics, and product analytics in technology firms. French and European employers recruiting from this pool include the Big Four and strategy consultancies' analytics arms, the banks and insurers (BNP Paribas, Société Générale, AXA, Crédit Agricole), the retail and luxury groups (Decathlon, Auchan, LVMH, L'Oréal — the Lille region is a major retail head-office cluster), and technology and start-up employers across France and the wider EU. Sri Lankan returnees move into analytics and business intelligence leadership at Dialog Axiata, John Keells, MAS Holdings, Brandix, Commercial Bank, HNB, Sampath Bank and Hemas, into the Colombo analytics delivery centres of the international consultancies, and into product analytics roles at WSO2, IFS and 99X.
