MSc in Business Analytics & AI
ESCP Business School
Deadline detail: Rolling rounds from October to June — apply early for scholarship consideration
Course Overview
ESCP's MSc in Business Analytics & AI — the programme that until recently ran as the MSc in Big Data and Business Analytics — is a fifteen-month specialised master's delivered in English across the Paris and Berlin campuses, with an international seminar in between. It has been ranked ninth worldwide in the QS Business Master's rankings for business analytics, which for a business-school analytics programme is about as good as the category gets.
The design point is the gap that most organisations actually suffer from: plenty of people who can build a model, plenty of people who can run a business, very few who can do both and translate between them. So the curriculum runs a genuine technical spine — Python, SQL, statistics and econometrics, machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, big-data infrastructure, data visualisation — alongside strategy, digital transformation, data governance and ethics, and the change-management work of getting an analytics function adopted. It finishes with a company consulting project and a professional thesis, and most students take an internship in France or Germany.
For Sri Lankan applicants this sits in a specific and useful place. If you already have a technical degree and want to move towards leading analytics functions rather than only building them, a business-school analytics master's is a better fit than a pure computer-science one; if you come from a commerce, economics or finance background with real quantitative ability, this is one of the few routes into data roles that will actually admit you. ESCP's brand carries weight across European recruiting, the fifteen-month length keeps living costs to roughly one year plus a term, and France's post-study job-search permit gives time to convert the internship into a role. Back home, the analytics and data-science functions at the banks, telcos, conglomerates and the larger IT services firms have grown fast and are consistently short of people who can sit between the model and the boardroom.
Entry Requirements
Academic
- check_circle A bachelor's degree (three or four years) in any discipline, with demonstrable quantitative capability — engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics, economics, finance and management-with-quant backgrounds are all represented in the cohort.
- check_circle Prior programming exposure is expected rather than assumed to be taught from zero; Python and SQL are the practical baseline, and ESCP runs preparatory modules before the programme starts.
- check_circle GMAT, GRE or the ESCP admissions test is normally required. The reported class average sits in the region of 650-680 GMAT, so treat the test seriously; waivers are occasionally granted for candidates with a strong quantitative degree or professional designation, so ask before booking.
- check_circle Work experience is not mandatory but strengthens a file, particularly for the consulting-project and internship components.
- check_circle Sri Lankan applicants with a BSc Eng from Moratuwa or Peradeniya, a BSc in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics or Economics from Colombo, Peradeniya, Sri Jayewardenepura or Kelaniya, a SLIIT, NSBM or IIT computing degree, or a CIMA, CA Sri Lanka or CFA background with quantitative work, are the standard profiles.
- check_circle Application includes a CV, essays, references and an admissions interview; rounds are rolling and earlier rounds carry more scholarship money.
- check_circle The programme moves between Paris and Berlin, so plan for both a French student visa and the German residence formalities — ESCP's mobility office handles the process but the timelines are yours to manage.
English Proficiency
- check_circle The programme is taught and examined entirely in English.
- check_circle IELTS Academic: 7.0 Overall is the usual expectation for ESCP specialised master's programmes.
- check_circle TOEFL iBT: 100 Overall.
- check_circle Cambridge English: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency.
- check_circle Waived where your bachelor's degree was taught and examined entirely in English — Sri Lankan applicants from English-medium degrees submit a Medium of Instruction letter from the registrar. ESCP applies this at its discretion, so request confirmation in writing before deciding not to sit a test.
- check_circle No French or German is required. Free language classes run at both campuses, and even basic German is worth acquiring during the Berlin term — the German analytics job market is large and many mid-sized employers there work in German.

Career Outcomes & PR
Graduates go into data science and analytics roles, analytics consulting, product and digital transformation, quantitative marketing, risk and fraud analytics, and AI product management — the business-school framing means a large share end up in consulting and in internal transformation functions rather than purely technical engineering posts. Recruiters across the ESCP network include the strategy and technology consultancies (McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Accenture, Capgemini, the Big Four), the French and German corporates (L'Oréal, LVMH, Danone, Airbus, Siemens, SAP, Zalando, Delivery Hero), the banks (BNP Paribas, Société Générale, Deutsche Bank), and the European technology and startup sector. France grants a job-search and business-creation permit to graduates of qualifying master's-level diplomas, extended for French master's degree holders — confirm that the specific ESCP diploma you are enrolling on carries that entitlement before you rely on it, since the rules turn on the RNCP registration of the qualification rather than on the school. Germany's 18-month job-seeker permit is the parallel route if you finish and job-hunt from Berlin. Sri Lankan returnees route into the data and analytics functions at Dialog Axiata, SLT-Mobitel, Commercial Bank, HNB, Sampath, HSBC Sri Lanka and Standard Chartered, the analytics teams at John Keells, MAS and Brandix, the Big Four Colombo data and AI advisory practices, and the client-facing analytics work sold by WSO2, Virtusa, IFS and the BPO sector.
