Course Overview

Johannes Kepler University Linz's MSc Artificial Intelligence is a two-year, 120-ECTS programme taught entirely in English, with a strong emphasis on deep learning and reinforcement learning. Students choose one of four elective tracks: AI for Simulation, Embedded Intelligence and Signal Processing, Symbolic AI and Mathematical Foundations, or AI and Life Sciences. JKU's Institute for Machine Learning, led by LSTM co-inventor Sepp Hochreiter, makes Linz one of Europe's most credible places to study modern AI, and the programme can also be followed with remote teaching from JKU's Vienna and Bregenz centres (exams are in person).

For Sri Lankan computer-science, software-engineering and data-science graduates from Moratuwa, Colombo, SLIIT, IIT, NSBM or Peradeniya, JKU offers a research-grade AI master's at Austrian public-university tuition of about €727 per semester, a fraction of UK or Australian fees. JKU reports that many graduates find jobs before they finish, with average salaries around €4,700 a month three years after graduating. Upper Austria's industrial base (voestalpine, Fronius, Engel, KTM, Borealis) and Linz's software firms, notably Dynatrace, recruit AI and data talent locally, and Austria's 12-month job-seeker residence permit gives graduates time to secure a role.
