Course Overview
Northwestern University's MS in Journalism is delivered by the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications — widely regarded as one of the top journalism schools in the world. The intensive, full-immersion master's combines reporting, multimedia and data journalism, audience and digital strategy, and a signature residency in which students report from a major US news bureau (Washington, Chicago, San Francisco, and beyond). Medill's name carries exceptional weight across the global media industry, and the program produces a high proportion of working national journalists.
Sri Lankan applicants with strong writing, media, or communications backgrounds from Colombo, Kelaniya (Mass Communication), and Sri Jayewardenepura choose Medill for the most respected US journalism credential and the practical, newsroom-embedded training. Graduates of this OPT-eligible master's qualify for 12 months of Optional Practical Training. Medill graduates enter national and international newsrooms, digital media, and communications. Returnees route into senior journalism, digital-media, and corporate-communications leadership at the leading Sri Lankan media houses, Dialog Axiata, John Keells, the UN agencies' communications teams, and the major Colombo PR and content agencies.
