Massey University
Course Overview
Massey's Master of Information Sciences (MIS) is a 240-credit research-leaning degree with specialisations in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science and Software Engineering. The structure is 120 credits of taught papers (machine learning, advanced algorithms, security, data analytics) plus a 120-credit research thesis supervised by faculty — a real advantage for Sri Lankan students considering a PhD or research-track engineering role afterward.
Teaching is delivered from the Auckland (Albany) campus, with strong industry pull from the surrounding tech corridor — Datacom, Xero, Vista Group and Spark. Graduates qualify for the full 3-year Post-Study Work Visa (PSWV), and ICT roles (software engineer, data analyst, ICT security specialist) feature heavily on the Green List for Skilled Migrant residency.

Career Outcomes & PR
Massey MIS graduates feed into the Auckland tech scene — Datacom, Xero, Spark, Vista Group and IAG — plus government data roles at MBIE and Stats NZ. The research-thesis component opens PhD options at Massey and across Australian Group of Eight universities. ICT occupations (software engineer, data analyst, security specialist) are Green List Tier 1, meaning a direct residency route after the PSWV.
