MEng in Civil & Environmental Engineering
Western University (Faculty of Engineering)
Course Overview
The MEng in Civil & Environmental Engineering at Western is a one-year, course-based professional degree (no thesis required) — Sri Lankan engineers use it to top up their BSc Eng credentials and qualify for the 3-year PGWP plus a clear path to PEO licensure. Three intakes a year (September / January / May) make it one of the most accessible MEng options in Ontario.
You choose a concentration from structural, geotechnical, transportation, water resources, or environmental engineering — each anchored by Western's WindEEE Research Institute (the world's first three-dimensional wind testing chamber) and the Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Lab. The programme requires 8 graduate courses plus an industry project supervised by a faculty member.

Career Outcomes & PR
Western MEng graduates move into Ontario's civil-engineering consultancies (WSP, Stantec, Arup, AECOM, Hatch, Parsons) and into municipal roles in Toronto, London, and Hamilton. The MEng is a recognised pathway to PEO licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) — the Canadian licence required for signing off on infrastructure work. Graduates use the 3-year PGWP to accumulate the Canadian engineering experience needed for both P.Eng. and Express Entry PR.
