Course Overview
The MIT MEng in Civil and Environmental Engineering is a one-year, professionally focused degree designed for Sri Lankan civil and environmental engineers who want a project-led degree rather than a research-track SM. Students choose one of two tracks — Structural Mechanics and Design, or Systems — and spend the year on coursework plus a substantive industry-linked capstone.
The capstone is the centerpiece: small teams partner with firms like Arup, Skanska, Jacobs or Boston-area public agencies to deliver a real engineering proposal that's defended to faculty and industry reviewers. Self-funded by design, the program is intentionally compact so graduates re-enter the workforce within twelve months of leaving home.
