MEng Civil Engineering
University of Birmingham Dubai
Course Overview
The MEng Civil Engineering at Birmingham Dubai is a 4-year integrated Master's programme — equivalent to a BEng plus a Master's year combined — designed for Sri Lankan students who want to qualify as Chartered Engineers (CEng) without doing two separate degrees. It is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators on behalf of the ICE, IStructE, IHE and CIHT.
Core modules cover structural mechanics, geotechnics, hydraulics, transportation and construction management, with later years covering project-based design (a tall tower, a metro tunnel, a coastal reclamation scheme) — all of which mirror the kind of work Sri Lankan civil engineers walk into at firms like Parsons, AECOM, WSP and Khatib & Alami across the GCC.

Career Outcomes & PR
The UAE construction pipeline — Expo City legacy, Etihad Rail, Saudi NEOM cross-border infrastructure, and a steady stream of Dubai mega-projects — means civil engineering graduates rarely struggle to place. Birmingham alumni in Dubai work at Arup, Parsons, AECOM, WSP, ALEC and the Roads & Transport Authority. The UAE Golden Visa is open to civil engineers with relevant accreditation and a qualifying employment offer.
