Master of Education (Leadership and Educational Change)
National Institute of Education, NTU Singapore
Course Overview
Singapore's National Institute of Education (NIE) is the sole national teacher-education institute in Singapore — an autonomous institute of NTU and the highest-ranked Asian education school (top 10 globally for Education, QS Subject Rankings 2025). The MEd Leadership and Educational Change is NIE's flagship Master's for serving school leaders, deputy principals, heads of department, and aspiring policy / curriculum specialists. The 1-year full-time (or 2-3 year part-time) programme is built around the Singapore Education System's Leadership Growth Model: strategic leadership, curriculum and pedagogical leadership, organisational change, educational policy, and a major capstone applied research project — taught by NIE faculty who advise the Ministry of Education (MOE) Singapore on national reforms.
Sri Lankan applicants from BEd / BA Education / NIE Sri Lanka / OUSL backgrounds with 3-5+ years of teaching, head-of-department, or sectional-head experience choose NIE Singapore for its policy-architecture exposure — the school sits inside the MOE's research network and has direct dialogue with the Singapore Ministry's senior team, Curriculum Planning and Development Division, and the Academy of Singapore Teachers. The course is heavily case-study driven on Singapore's much-studied PISA-leading education system. Singapore offers a 1-year LTVP for post-study job search and Employment Pass (EP) at SGD 5,000+/month — but most international MEd candidates return home to lead system-change projects.
