Course Overview
Sorbonne University's Master in Public Health is delivered by the Faculty of Medicine in partnership with the Institut Pierre Louis d'Épidémiologie et de Santé Publique (INSERM) and the École des Hautes Études en Santé Publique (EHESP). Sorbonne is France's top-ranked medical and public health research university — its Faculty of Medicine traces back to 1253 and the public health programme draws on the INSERM (French National Institute of Health) research network. The 2-year Master spans 5 specialisation tracks: Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Health Economics & Policy, Global Health, Health Promotion & Disease Prevention, and Health Data Science. Most tracks are taught in English (the Epidemiology and Global Health tracks especially). The programme includes mandatory research practicum, dissertation, and access to Sorbonne's hospital and INSERM research networks.
Sri Lankan applicants — typically medical doctors (MBBS Colombo / Peradeniya / Jaffna / Sri Jayewardenepura / Kelaniya / Ruhuna / Eastern), nurses (BNurs SLIATE / Open University), public health graduates from Sri Jayewardenepura, plus development sector professionals from the Ministry of Health, WHO Sri Lanka, World Bank Colombo, UN agencies, and major NGOs (Sarvodaya, Family Health Bureau) — choose Sorbonne Public Health over LSHTM / Johns Hopkins for: the Sorbonne medical brand, tuition at €4,200/year (versus £25,000+ at LSHTM and $50,000+ at Johns Hopkins), strong INSERM research partnership opening direct PhD progression, France's 24-month APS post-Master's permit, and the EU Blue Card pathway. Returnees route into Ministry of Health Sri Lanka (Family Health Bureau, Epidemiology Unit), WHO Sri Lanka, UNICEF Sri Lanka, World Bank Colombo health team, plus academic posts at the Sri Lanka medical faculties and the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM).
