Master of Landscape Architecture
University of Melbourne
Course Overview
University of Melbourne is ranked #13 globally in QS World Rankings (2026) and #2 in Australia for Architecture / Built Environment in QS World Rankings by Subject. The Master of Landscape Architecture is fully accredited by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) and recognised by IFLA (International Federation of Landscape Architects). Students work on real Melbourne and regional Victoria sites, including projects with the City of Melbourne, Parks Victoria, Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, and Yarra River regeneration design. The 2-year stream is for applicants with a cognate undergraduate degree; 3-year for non-cognate backgrounds.
Sri Lankan applicants — particularly architects with experience under Geoffrey Bawa-tradition firms (Sunela Jayewardene Studio, Vinod Jayasinghe, Pradeep Kodikara), urban-planning professionals at UDA / Megapolis, and sustainability designers working on the Sri Lankan coastal-resilience agenda — choose Melbourne for the explicit climate-and-resilience research depth, the AILA accreditation (recognised internationally), and the 485 visa pathway. Architects (232111) and Landscape Architects (232112) are on Australia's MLTSSL with direct PR routes.
