Master in Accountancy
University of Malta
Course Overview
University of Malta's Master in Accountancy is the professional pathway to qualifying as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Malta — and via that route, into the EU mutual-recognition framework for accountancy. Delivered through the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy, the 2-year programme combines advanced financial reporting (IFRS), advanced management accounting, advanced auditing and assurance, tax law (Maltese and EU), corporate governance, and a substantial dissertation. It builds directly on the BCom (Hons) Accountancy and is also available as a conversion route for non-accounting Bachelor's holders.
Sri Lankan applicants from BCom Accountancy / Finance backgrounds at Colombo, Sri Jayewardenepura, Kelaniya, Ruhuna, NSBM, NIBM, plus ACCA / CASL part-qualified students choose this MAcc for the recognised CPA Malta route. Malta is a Big Four stronghold (Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC all have substantial Malta offices) and a fast-growing iGaming, fintech, and digital-asset audit market. Returnees route into audit, tax, and corporate finance roles at the Big Four Colombo offices, BDO, Baker Tilly, KPMG SL, plus internal audit and finance manager positions at John Keells, Hayleys, MAS, Brandix, Dialog, HSBC SL, Standard Chartered SL, Commercial Bank, and Sampath Bank — many with parallel CASL / ACCA progression.
