MA Writing, Editing & Publishing
University of Queensland
Course Overview
The University of Queensland is a Group of Eight, QS top-50 university, and its Master of Writing, Editing and Publishing is one of Australia's most practical postgraduate programmes for the contemporary publishing industry. It blends creative and professional writing with hands-on editing, manuscript development and the business of publishing — print and digital. For Sri Lankan English, media and arts graduates who want a career in publishing, editing or content rather than purely academic study, UQ offers a vocational, industry-aligned route in Brisbane.
The programme covers writing craft, copy- and structural editing, publishing workflows, rights and the digital-content economy, capped by a professional or creative project. UQ's links to publishers and the Queensland literary scene give students real portfolio-building experience. Australia's post-study Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) provides 2-3 years of work rights, useful for entering the publishing and content industry before returning home with professional editing credentials.
