Course Overview

The University of Malta's MA in Public Policy is a one-year, English-taught programme that trains graduates to design, analyse and evaluate public policy inside an EU member state. As Malta delivers its higher education in English, Sri Lankan graduates from the University of Colombo, Peradeniya, NSBM and APIIT can step straight into a European postgraduate environment without a language-bridge year.

The curriculum covers policy analysis frameworks, governance and public administration, economics for policymakers, EU institutions and regulation, research methods and a supervised dissertation. Malta's small, well-connected public sector and its role as an EU and Commonwealth member give students unusually direct access to ministries, regulators and policy NGOs for fieldwork and internships.

Graduates are equipped for roles in government, international organisations, think tanks, development agencies and the policy and public-affairs functions of larger firms.

Career Outcomes & PR

A Malta postgraduate degree is an EU-recognised qualification, and Malta's residence permit allows part-time work during study. After graduating, international students can apply for a job-seeker residence period and then a single permit to work in Malta; with a qualifying role they can progress toward the EU Blue Card and longer-term residence. Graduates take roles in ministries and EU-linked agencies in Malta, international organisations, think tanks and consultancies, and in public-affairs teams across the EU.
