Course Overview
Korea University's School of Media and Communication is one of the SKY group's strongest social science departments, and the English-track MA covers media industries and management, digital and platform communication, advertising and strategic communication, journalism and public opinion, and communication research methods. The two-year structure is coursework plus a thesis, with methods training — survey design, content analysis, experimental design, and increasingly computational text and network analysis — treated as a core competence rather than an elective.
Seoul is the point of difference. Korea University sits in Anam, a short ride from the broadcasters, agencies and platform companies that produce the Korean media output the rest of the world now studies, and the department maintains research and internship links across that industry. For Sri Lankan graduates from mass communication, journalism or marketing programmes, the combination of rigorous quantitative methods plus proximity to a working cultural-export industry is difficult to find at this price point anywhere in Europe or North America.
Entry Requirements
Academic
- check_circle Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, media, marketing, sociology, political science or a related field, with a good grade average (Second Upper or above).
- check_circle Statement of purpose setting out your research interest and intended thesis direction.
- check_circle Academic CV, plus a portfolio or work samples if you come from a professional media background.
- check_circle Two academic references.
- check_circle Apostilled degree certificate and transcripts — Korean universities require consular or apostille verification and Sri Lankan applicants should allow six to eight weeks for it.
English Proficiency
- check_circle IELTS Academic: 6.5 Overall, or TOEFL iBT 84 Overall.
- check_circle Waived if your Bachelor's was taught and assessed entirely in English — a Medium of Instruction letter is accepted and covers most Sri Lankan applicants.
- check_circle No Korean language requirement for the English track; free Korean classes are offered and are useful for internships and fieldwork.

Career Outcomes & PR
Graduates move into strategic communication and brand roles at Korean conglomerates and their overseas arms, digital and platform companies including Naver, Kakao, Coupang and the entertainment agencies, advertising and media agencies, broadcasters and news organisations, and public-sector communication bodies. A significant minority continue to doctoral study. Korea's D-10 job-seeking visa gives up to two years to find employment, and the F-2-7 points system rewards a Korean Master's plus language ability with long-term residence. Sri Lankan graduates return into agency strategy and planning roles in Colombo, corporate communications at Dialog, John Keells, MAS and the banks, digital publishing, and teaching posts in mass communication departments.
