UCL Institute of Education
Course Overview
UCL Institute of Education (IOE) has been ranked #1 globally for Education in QS World Rankings by Subject for 11 consecutive years. The 1-year MA Education is a flagship Master's offering 17+ specialist pathways including Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment; International Education and Development; Education and Technology; Equity, Diversity and Inclusion; and Teacher Education. The programme is research-led — students work alongside faculty publishing in Comparative Education Review, Journal of Education Policy, and British Journal of Sociology of Education.
Sri Lankan applicants — particularly those from Ministry of Education, NIE (National Institute of Education), private school directors, or NGOs in education (Room to Read, Save the Children, World Bank Education Global Practice) — choose UCL IOE because the degree is the global gold-standard for education leadership. The MA is also one of the most frequent Chevening Scholarship target programmes for Sri Lankan applicants. Returnees move into senior MoE, NIE, and international-school principalship roles.
