Bachelor of Laws (Honours)
Monash University
Course Overview
Monash University's Bachelor of Laws (Honours) is delivered by the Faculty of Law — ranked in the QS global top 50 for law and one of Australia's most prestigious law schools, at a Go8 university. The four-year degree covers the full Priestley 11 core subjects required for legal admission in Australia (contracts, torts, criminal law, constitutional law, property, equity, civil procedure, evidence, company law, administrative law, and ethics), plus extensive electives and the Honours research component. Monash's law clinics, moot court program, and global study options give strong practical and international exposure.
Sri Lankan A-Level / IB applicants — including those who would otherwise read law at Colombo or the Sri Lanka Law College — choose Monash for an internationally portable LLB and the option to qualify for legal practice in Australia. An English-medium school qualification typically supports an IELTS waiver via an MOI letter. Graduates qualify for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) for post-study work, and after Practical Legal Training can be admitted to practise in Victoria. Returnees with an Australian LLB are well placed at top Colombo commercial law firms (Julius & Creasy, F.J. & G. de Saram, Nithya Partners, Sudath Perera Associates), corporate legal departments at John Keells, Dialog, and Brandix, and in international arbitration and compliance roles.
