Course Overview

AUE's College of Law teaches an English-medium LLB from Dubai International Academic City, licensed and accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education's Commission for Academic Accreditation. The curriculum combines UAE and GCC law — civil and commercial code, company law, labour law, criminal law — with international and comparative components covering international commercial arbitration, international trade law and human rights. Moot court and legal-clinic work run through the later years.

The practical case for Sri Lankan students is regional rather than global. The UAE hosts a very large Sri Lankan expatriate population, and Dubai's arbitration and commercial dispute infrastructure — the DIFC Courts operating in English under a common-law framework, the Dubai International Arbitration Centre, and the free-zone regimes — creates paralegal, compliance, contracts and legal-support roles that an English-medium UAE law degree maps onto directly. Be clear on one point though: an LLB is an academic qualification, and rights of audience in UAE courts are restricted, while practising in Sri Lanka requires the separate Sri Lanka Law College route. Treat this as a corporate, compliance and arbitration-support pathway rather than a route to the bar.

English Proficiency

  • check_circle IELTS Academic: 5.5-6.0 Overall, or TOEFL iBT 71-79, in line with UAE Ministry of Education requirements for English-medium programmes.
  • check_circle EmSAT English is also accepted.
  • check_circle Waived where Sri Lankan A-Levels were completed in the English medium — confirm with AUE admissions, as UAE regulators apply their own evidence rules.
  • check_circle Arabic is not required for the English-medium track, though it is a significant advantage for UAE court and government work.

Career Outcomes & PR

Graduates work in corporate legal and compliance departments, contracts and procurement, arbitration and dispute-resolution support, banking and insurance compliance, and government and free-zone regulatory bodies across the UAE. The UAE Green Visa gives qualifying graduates a route to remain and seek work without an employer sponsor, and the Golden Visa is available to high-achieving graduates — check the current criteria, which change. Practising as an advocate in the UAE is restricted and generally requires UAE nationality plus Arabic; plan around in-house, compliance and arbitration-support roles. Sri Lankan graduates returning home can use the LLB toward Sri Lanka Law College examinations, and are well placed for compliance and contracts roles at the banks, listed conglomerates and BPO sector in Colombo.
