LLB (Hons) Bachelor of Laws (UOWD)
University of Wollongong in Dubai
Course Overview
The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) is one of the longest-established international universities in the UAE, and its LLB (Hons) Bachelor of Laws awards a degree from a top Australian university. The programme combines foundations of common law — contract, tort, criminal, constitutional, and company law — with UAE and international commercial law modules relevant to the Gulf's business environment. Moot courts, legal-research training, and internships with Dubai law firms and corporate legal departments make it practice-oriented, and triple-honours streams allow specialisation in areas like international business law.
Sri Lankan applicants choose UOWD for a recognised Australian law degree at roughly half the cost of studying in Australia, a four-hour flight from Colombo, and the UAE Green Visa's five-year post-study residency pathway. Important for Sri Lankan families: an LLB earned abroad is an academic qualification — practising as an Attorney-at-Law in Sri Lanka requires sitting the Sri Lanka Law College / Council of Legal Education examinations and admission to the Bar, while practice in the UAE or Australia requires their own local conversion. The degree is, however, an excellent base for corporate legal, compliance, and international-business careers.
