Bachelor of Science (Physics)
National University of Singapore
Course Overview
The National University of Singapore is ranked among the top 10 universities in the world (QS) and is Asia's leading research university. Its Bachelor of Science (Physics), offered through the Faculty of Science, is a four-year honours degree spanning classical and quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, statistical and condensed-matter physics, and computational methods — with the option to specialise toward quantum technologies, astrophysics, or applied and nanoscale physics.
NUS Physics is research-rich: students can work alongside groups at the Centre for Quantum Technologies and other world-class institutes, take a final-year research project, and access strong computational and laboratory facilities. The honours structure and research training make NUS Physics a recognised springboard into top-tier master's and PhD programmes worldwide.
For Sri Lankan physical-science students, NUS offers a globally top-10 science degree close to home, taught entirely in English. Singapore's MOE Tuition Grant can substantially reduce fees in exchange for a post-study work commitment, and the city's deep tech, semiconductor, quantum, and data-science economy — plus post-study work passes — gives physics graduates strong options in research, engineering, finance, and data roles across Asia.
Entry Requirements
Academic
- check_circle Sri Lankan A/Ls in the Physical Science stream with strong grades in Physics and Combined Mathematics (Chemistry is an asset).
- check_circle Cambridge International / Edexcel A-Levels: high grades (typically A*–A) in Physics and Mathematics.
- check_circle IB Diploma: a strong overall score with Higher Level Physics and Mathematics.
- check_circle Admission is competitive and based primarily on academic merit in the relevant subjects.
- check_circle A pass in O/L Mathematics and O/L English is expected.
English Proficiency
- check_circle IELTS Academic: 6.5 Overall.
- check_circle TOEFL iBT: 92 Overall.
- check_circle Pearson PTE Academic and the SAT (strong evidence-based reading and writing) are also considered.
- check_circle Waiver path: applicants whose secondary education was in the English medium — including Sri Lanka's English-medium A/L stream — can have the English test waived on submission of a medium-of-instruction (MOI) letter.
- check_circle We confirm the current NUS thresholds, which can vary by the qualification you hold.
