Course Overview
TU Delft's BSc Mechanical Engineering is the Netherlands' #1 ranked mechanical engineering undergraduate degree and consistently top-20 globally for Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering (QS subject 2026). The three-year programme is delivered through the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (3mE) on the historic Delft campus. The Bachelor is largely Dutch-medium with extensive English-medium electives — but TU Delft also offers the English-medium Bachelor in Aerospace Engineering as a related alternative. Sri Lankan applicants to the Mechanical Engineering Bachelor should plan for Dutch language preparation to NT2-II before enrolment.
Core modules cover engineering mathematics, mechanics, materials, thermodynamics, control systems, design and manufacturing, plus a major design project in each year. Specialisation tracks emerge in Year 3: Aerospace Engineering, Maritime Engineering, Sustainable Energy Engineering, Robotics & Mechatronics, and Biomedical Engineering. TU Delft sits in the heart of the Dutch high-tech corridor — ASML (Veldhoven, 1.5 hours), Philips (Eindhoven), TomTom, NXP, Damen Shipyards, Royal IHC, plus a fast-growing robotics and clean-tech startup ecosystem on the Delft Science Park (Lightyear, Mosa Meat, Avantium). The 3mE faculty operates very strong industry-internship and bachelor's-thesis pipelines.
Entry Requirements
Academic

- check_circle Cambridge / Edexcel A-Levels: BBB-ABB including Mathematics and Physics.
- check_circle IB Diploma: 32+ points with HL Mathematics (Analysis & Approaches) and HL Physics.
- check_circle Online mathematics and physics entrance test for applicants whose maths/physics background is unclear.
- check_circle Studielink application + TU Delft international application portal.
- check_circle Motivation letter (~500 words) and CV. No interview required.
English Proficiency
- check_circle IELTS Academic: 6.5 Overall (no band below 6.0) for English-medium electives.
- check_circle TOEFL iBT: 90 Overall.
- check_circle Cambridge English: C1 Advanced grade C.
- check_circle Waived if your A/L, Cambridge International or IB programme was taught and assessed entirely in English (English component only).
- check_circle Dutch NT2-II (B2) required for the BSc Werktuigbouwkunde — applicants must complete Dutch language preparation. The English-medium TU Delft BSc Aerospace Engineering is an alternative for non-Dutch-speaking applicants.

Career Outcomes & PR
The Netherlands offers the Orientation Year (Zoekjaar) — a 1-year residence permit to job-search after a Dutch Bachelor's. Graduates of Dutch universities qualify for the lower Highly Skilled Migrant salary threshold (~€2,801/month gross in 2025) plus the 30% tax ruling. TU Delft Mechanical Engineering graduates routinely land roles at ASML (Veldhoven, €52,000-€68,000 starting), Philips Eindhoven, NXP, TomTom, Damen Shipyards, Royal IHC, Shell, plus the Delft Science Park startup cluster (Lightyear, Avantium).
