Course Overview

The University of Pisa's Bachelor's degree in Management for Business and Economics is a three-year, limited-access programme taught entirely in English, with international lecturers. It combines business management with economics across finance, marketing, accounting and law, with an emphasis on leadership. Year 1 lays the foundations in law, economics, mathematics, statistics and accounting; Year 2 moves into business law, macroeconomics, marketing and economic policy; Year 3 covers corporate finance, banking, strategy, entrepreneurship and organisational decisions. A small number of students can join a double degree with Nürtingen-Geislingen University in Germany.

Up to 50 places are reserved each year for non-EU students applying for a visa, which makes the programme a realistic target for Sri Lankan school leavers with good A/Ls in Commerce or Physical Science, or Cambridge/Edexcel A-Levels. Tuition at this public university is capped at €2,900 a year (plus €156 regional tax and stamp duty) and can be reduced based on family income, far below UK or Australian business degrees. Pisa is a compact, affordable university town, and Italy's 12-month 'attesa occupazione' permit lets graduates stay on to look for work.

Career Outcomes & PR

Non-EU graduates of Italian universities can apply for a 12-month residence permit to look for work ('permesso per attesa occupazione') and convert it to a work permit once hired. Pisa reports graduates working as consultants, entrepreneurs and junior managers in marketing, HR, accounting, finance and auditing, and many continue to a master's in Italy or elsewhere in Europe. Tuscany's employers include Piaggio, banks such as Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, and the Big Four in Florence and Milan. Sri Lankan returnees fit graduate-trainee roles at John Keells, Hayleys, Commercial Bank, HNB and the Colombo offices of global audit and consulting firms.
