Course Overview
TU Wien's BSc Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik (Electrical Engineering and Information Technology) is delivered through the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology — one of Europe's strongest EE faculties, with significant research traction in microelectronics, power systems, automation, and communications. Vienna is also home to AT&S (one of Europe's largest PCB and IC substrate manufacturers), Infineon Austria, ams OSRAM, and the European R&D hubs of Bosch and Siemens — making Vienna a serious electrical-engineering city for graduate hires.
Sri Lankan A-Level / IB applicants from Physical Science / Mathematics streams use TU Wien EE for: tuition at €1,480/year non-EU (one of the EU's cheapest), a public-university engineering degree, and a 12-month post-study residence permit (Red-White-Red Card for Graduates). The 6-semester programme covers electrical engineering fundamentals, mathematics and physics for engineers, semiconductors and microelectronics, power electronics, signals and systems, control engineering, communications, and a Bachelor's thesis. Year 1 is delivered in German; Years 2 and 3 contain increasing English electives. Returnees move into power engineering, electronics, and automation posts at Ceylon Electricity Board, LECO, Sri Lanka Telecom, Dialog Axiata, Brown & Company, and the EE divisions of Hayleys and John Keells.

- check_circle Sri Lankan GCE A/L: 3 passes in the Physical Science stream with C or higher in Combined Mathematics and Physics — secondary-school certificate nostrified to Austrian Matura.
- check_circle Sri Lankan Cambridge / Edexcel A-Levels: 3 A-Levels at C or above (Mathematics and Physics required) plus 5 O-Level / GCSE passes including Mathematics and English.
- check_circle IB Diploma: 28+ points with Mathematics HL; Physics HL strongly preferred.
- check_circle STEOP orientation in Semester 1 — no pre-admission entrance test.
- check_circle Motivation letter, CV, and Austrian document nostrification at application time.
English Proficiency
- check_circle German B2 (Goethe-Zertifikat B2, ÖSD B2, or TestDaF TDN 4) required for the German-medium first year — alternative: TU Wien Vorstudienlehrgang preparatory year (€350/semester).
- check_circle IELTS Academic 6.0 / TOEFL iBT 80 required for English-medium upper-year electives.
- check_circle MOI letter accepted from English-medium A-Level / IB applicants for the English elective waiver.

Career Outcomes & PR
TU Wien EE graduates qualify for Austria's Red-White-Red Card for Graduates (12-month job-search residence permit), with conversion to the Red-White-Red Card at a qualifying offer (~€2,925/month gross for graduates, 2025). Major Austrian employers: AT&S, Infineon Austria, ams OSRAM, Siemens Austria, Bosch Austria, voestalpine, OMV, Andritz, KTM, AVL List, and the engineering divisions of Erste Group and Raiffeisen for fintech / payments engineering. Median starting salary €38,000-€48,000. Sri Lankan returnees take power systems, telecom, and embedded engineering roles at Ceylon Electricity Board, LECO, Sri Lanka Telecom, Dialog Axiata, Mobitel, MAS Holdings (smart-factory automation), and Hayleys.
