BSc in Computing and Electrical Engineering
Tampere University
Course Overview
Tampere University's BSc in Computing and Electrical Engineering is delivered through the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences. Tampere is Finland's second-largest urban region and a deep-tech industrial hub: Nokia's mobile networks division, Sandvik Mining and Construction, Kalmar (cranes / port automation), Patria, plus a growing software start-up scene all employ heavily from this programme. The 3-year curriculum integrates computer science (programming, algorithms, software engineering) with electrical engineering (circuits, signals, embedded systems, communications) — a combination Finland calls 'Computing and Electrical' that suits applicants headed for IoT, embedded systems, or telecoms.
Sri Lankan A-Level / IB applicants from Physical Science / Combined Maths streams who want an integrated CS-EE Bachelor's at a lower fee tier than Aalto choose Tampere. Tuition (€12,000/yr) and Tampere's lower living costs (€10,000-€12,000/yr vs Helsinki's €12,000-€14,000) make the total spend significantly lower. Finland's 2-year post-study job-search residence permit (one of the longest in the EU) and the EU Blue Card pathway (~€3,827/month gross threshold in 2025) make permanent EU mobility realistic. Returnees route into embedded systems, telecom engineering, and software engineering roles at Dialog Axiata, MillenniumIT, IFS R&D, Virtusa, MAS Holdings electronics divisions, and CEB / Lanka Electricity Company.
