Course Overview
Otago Business School is AACSB-accredited (top 5% of global business schools) and ranked in the global top 200 for Business and Management. The 3-year Bachelor of Commerce in Information Systems sits at the intersection of business and computing — covering business analysis, systems analysis and design, database systems, enterprise architecture, IT project management, cybersecurity fundamentals, and digital business strategy. The degree is built for business-focused IT roles (Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, IT Consultant, Product Manager) rather than pure software engineering. Final-year industry capstone projects place students with KPMG NZ, Deloitte, Beca, Datacom, and the Otago University ITS team.
Sri Lankan applicants — particularly those interested in business-IT consulting careers, ERP / enterprise software implementation, or transitioning into product management — choose Otago BCom Information Systems because (1) the BCom structure allows a double major (Information Systems + Marketing / Finance / Management) which makes the degree more versatile than pure CS, (2) Otago has the lowest BCom fee in NZ, (3) Business Analyst (261111) and ICT Business Analyst are on NZ's Green List with PR pathways, and (4) the 3-year Post-Study Work Visa applies.
