Bachelor of Sport and Health Sciences
University of Jyväskylä
Course Overview
University of Jyväskylä's Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences is the only academic faculty in Finland dedicated to sport and exercise science research — established in 1963, and consistently ranked among the top sport-science departments in Europe. The Bachelor of Sport and Health Sciences is delivered in English and combines exercise physiology, biomechanics, sports medicine, nutrition, public health, sports psychology, sports management, and a Bachelor's thesis. Finland's sport-science ecosystem (KIHU Research Institute for Olympic Sports, the Finnish Olympic Committee) has long-standing partnerships with the faculty.
Sri Lankan A-Level / IB applicants from Biological Science or Bio-Maths streams with interest in exercise physiology, sports medicine, or public health (and Sri Lankan returnees increasingly entering sports performance and corporate wellness) choose Jyväskylä. Jyväskylä's living costs (€9,500-€10,500/yr) are lower than Helsinki. Finland's 2-year post-study job-search residence permit (one of the longest in the EU) supports realistic Finnish employment. Returnees route into sports performance roles with Sri Lanka Cricket, the Ministry of Sport, the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, plus the growing corporate-wellness market at MAS Holdings, Brandix, John Keells, Hayleys, Dialog Axiata, and private hospital wellness clinics.
