Bachelor of Music
Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne
Course Overview
Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (MCM) is ranked #18 globally for Performing Arts in QS World Rankings by Subject — Australia's leading conservatorium. The 3-year Bachelor of Music offers majors in Classical Performance (orchestral and solo instruments, voice, piano, organ), Jazz & Improvisation, Composition, Musicology / Ethnomusicology, and Music Theatre. Students perform regularly in Hanson Dyer Hall and Melba Hall, study under principal players from Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Australian Chamber Orchestra, and participate in masterclasses with visiting artists like Pinchas Zukerman and the Australian National Academy of Music network.
Sri Lankan applicants — particularly graduates of the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka (SOSL) Youth Orchestra, Music in Lanka, Royal Schools (ABRSM Grade 8+) or Methodist College choral programmes — choose MCM for the audition-based entry, world-class performance facilities, and direct pipeline into Australian state symphony orchestras, Opera Australia, and the Australian Defence Force band programme. Composition graduates also feed strongly into film scoring (Animal Logic, Weta) and contemporary classical commissions.
