Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (DIDI)
BA (Hons) Design — Product Design
Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (DIDI)
Course Overview
The Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (DIDI) is the UAE's first dedicated design university, founded in partnership with MIT and Parsons School of Design, set in the Dubai Design District (d3). Its BA (Hons) in Design is a single, interdisciplinary degree across four years; students specialise from a foundation year into pathways including Product Design, Multidisciplinary Design, Strategic Design Management, and Fashion Design. The Product Design pathway blends industrial design, materials and fabrication, human-centred design, and design-for-manufacture, taught in maker-labs equipped with 3D printers, CNC, and prototyping tools — with the MIT/Parsons pedagogy at its core.
Sri Lankan applicants choose DIDI for its MIT/Parsons-affiliated curriculum without crossing into US or European fee territory, plus the four-hour flight from Colombo and Dubai's design-economy momentum (d3 hosts Dubai Design Week and dozens of studios and brands). A portfolio and creative interview are central to admission. The UAE Green Visa offers graduates a five-year post-study residency pathway, and DIDI's industry links across d3 give strong internship-to-job conversion in a city investing heavily in its design and innovation sector.

Career Outcomes & PR
Graduates qualify for the UAE Green Visa (5-year residency) or employer-sponsored work permits. DIDI Product Design graduates place into d3-based studios, the design teams of consumer brands and developers (Emaar, Majid Al Futtaim), agencies, and global firms with Dubai design hubs; many launch their own studios within the d3 ecosystem. Sri Lankan returnees join product and industrial-design roles at Damro, MAS Holdings' innovation teams, Hayleys, and the growing Colombo design-startup scene, or freelance for regional clients. Strong portfolios also progress to master's study at Parsons, RCA, or in the UAE.
