Student's Pass · Verified 2026-05-14
Singapore's Student's Pass is the visa where the university does the work.
Once your offer is confirmed at NUS, NTU, SMU or another ICA-recognised institution, they lodge your Student's Pass via SOLAR+. No embassy appointment, no interview. Approval rates for major university admits exceed 95%. The hard part was getting the admission.

The one thing that decides it
The university files it, you arrive
Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority delegates the Student's Pass application process to recognised institutions via the SOLAR+ portal. The university lodges your file; you receive an In-Principle Approval letter. The Pass itself is issued after you arrive and complete the on-arrival medical check.
- check_circle The university initiates SOLAR+ within a week of receiving your acceptance.
- check_circle IPA letter typically arrives in 4–6 weeks — this is your entry permit.
- check_circle Travel to Singapore on the IPA + offer letter + passport. No visa stamp pre-arrival.
- check_circle Within 1 week of arrival: mandatory health check, biometrics, Pass collection at ICA.
Who can apply for the Student's Pass
Eligibility is the easy part — most denied applications fail on documentation or interview prep, not eligibility. Make sure all of these are cleared before you book anything.
Acceptance from ICA-recognised institution
Offer from NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT, SUSS or a private ICA-recognised university.
Financial capacity
Proof of funds covering Year 1 tuition (after MOE Tuition Grant if applicable) + SGD 12,000/year living.
Sri Lankan passport with 6-month validity
Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay.
MOE Tuition Grant (optional)
If you take the grant, you commit to a 3-year bond working in a Singapore-registered company after graduation. Application is part of the admission process.
What you'll submit
The core document stack. Your counsellor gives you a complete country-specific checklist after the free consultation — including formatting, translations and apostille rules.
In-Principle Approval (IPA)
Issued by ICA via your university's SOLAR+ portal once your admission is confirmed — required to enter Singapore as a student.
Student's Pass
Activated on arrival in Singapore. Sponsored by your university; valid for the duration of your program.
Medical Examination
Mandatory medical check (HIV, TB, chest X-ray) on arrival in Singapore — required before the Student's Pass is issued.
Financial Evidence
Proof of funds covering Year 1 tuition (after grant if applicable) plus living costs of ~SGD 12,000/year.
The 6-step application, in order
Doing these in the wrong order is the second-most-common reason files slip a semester. Numbers matter.

Visa Fee Summary
Why Singapore student visas get refused
Most refusals come down to these four problems. Knowing them before you submit is the single biggest difference between approval and refusal.
Funding gap
Insufficient evidence of funds for Year 1 tuition (after grant) + SGD 12,000 living.
Course relevance
Switching to an unrelated field without explanation in your application essay.
Prior overstay history
Any prior immigration violations in Singapore appear on ICA records.
Medical test failure
HIV-positive or active TB results lead to Pass cancellation post-arrival.
How we keep Singapore applications watertight
Four things we do for every Sri Lankan Singapore file before it goes near the embassy or immigration portal.
SOLAR+ liaison
We work directly with your university's international student office to ensure your SOLAR+ entry is filed correctly and promptly — typical 7-day filing.
MOE Tuition Grant guidance
Most Sri Lankan students benefit from the MOE Grant (75% tuition reduction + 3-year bond). We walk you through whether it makes sense for your situation.
Pre-arrival medical guidance
Singapore's on-arrival medical is mandatory, but a pre-flight check in Sri Lanka avoids surprises. We point you to the right Colombo clinics.
On-arrival coordination
ICA appointment scheduling, biometrics location, Pass collection timing — coordinated with your university's student services in your first week.
