Offer for Macquarie Programme
You must hold an offer for an eligible Macquarie undergraduate or postgraduate coursework programme. Higher Degree by Research candidates (PhD / MRes) apply separately for Macquarie HDR scholarships.
International Fee Status
Open to overseas-fee international students. Sri Lankan citizens applying from Sri Lanka are eligible. Australian citizens, permanent residents, and New Zealand citizens are not.
Strong Academic Record
Awards are merit-based. For UG entry, 3 As at A/L (or equivalent strong IB / SAT) is the typical threshold. For PG entry, a strong second-upper or first-class Bachelor's degree from a recognised university is required.
English Proficiency
Meet Macquarie's standard English requirement — typically IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0. Sri Lankan applicants with English-medium degrees may qualify for an MOI-letter-based waiver.
account_tree Application Process
Apply to Macquarie
Submit your Macquarie undergraduate or postgraduate application via the Macquarie online portal or through an authorised Macquarie agent. The standard application fee applies (AUD 125 for direct applications).
Automatic consideration
All eligible international offer holders are automatically assessed for the VC's International Scholarship. There is no separate application form. The strength of your academic record (translated to Macquarie's international grading scale) determines the outcome.
Award confirmation in offer letter
If awarded, the AUD 10,000 reduction is itemised in your Macquarie offer letter. The discount is applied to your first invoice for tuition — for postgraduates on 2-year programmes, this typically covers around 25% of one year's tuition.
Accept + Australian student visa
Accept your offer and pay the deposit (reduced by the scholarship). Macquarie issues an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE), which you use to apply for the Subclass 500 Student Visa via ImmiAccount.
Why Macquarie?
Macquarie is one of Sydney's four major universities, with around 45,000 students at a green suburban campus 30 minutes from the CBD. It is the global home of the actuarial profession (Macquarie invented the term and runs the world's largest actuarial school), strong in business/accounting, IT, linguistics, and hearing sciences. Macquarie's location near the Hornsby/Northern Sydney area means easy access to Sri Lankan community resources, temples, and grocers.
