MSc Business Analytics
University of Nottingham (Nottingham University Business School)
Course Overview
Nottingham University Business School runs its Business Analytics MSc over twelve months full-time at the Jubilee Campus, a purpose-built site a short bus ride from the main University Park campus. There is no part-time route. The degree trains graduates to work at the join between data and commercial decisions: modelling demand, pricing, optimising operations, segmenting customers and building the analytical case that a management team acts on.
Core teaching covers statistics and predictive modelling, machine learning, data management and SQL, business intelligence and visualisation, and operational research and optimisation, delivered in Python and R alongside commercial analytics tools. Electives allow a tilt toward marketing analytics, supply-chain analytics or financial modelling, and the year closes with a dissertation or an applied client project. Nottingham Business School holds triple accreditation and its operational-research and decision-science group is long established, which shows in how much optimisation content sits in the syllabus compared with a pure data-science course.
One thing to know before applying: from 2027 entry the programme is retitled Business, Analytics and AI MSc, with an expanded artificial-intelligence component. The 2026-27 intake still runs under the Business Analytics title, and the two sit on the same page on Nottingham's site. Entry requirements were also relaxed with the retitle — the 2026 route asks for a stronger quantitative profile and a higher English score than the 2027 one, so which cycle you apply for changes what you need.
International tuition for 2026 entry is £33,000, rising to £34,000 for 2027, with a £2,000 tuition deposit to secure the place and offset against the fee. Add the UKVI maintenance requirement, the Immigration Health Surcharge and the visa fee and the first-year total sits around LKR 18-19 million. The counterweight is the UK Graduate Route: two years of unsponsored work rights after graduation, and Nottingham is a comparatively affordable city to live in against London.
Entry Requirements
Academic
- check_circle A UK 2:1 honours degree or the international equivalent, in any discipline — a Sri Lankan four-year Special or Professional Bachelor's degree at Class II Upper is the standard route.
- check_circle For 2026 entry Nottingham asks for a strong 2:1 (around 65%) in quantitative modules with significant mathematics or statistics content; for 2027 entry the wording is a 2:1 with at least one quantitative module.
- check_circle Applicants who have already studied a substantial amount of business analytics at undergraduate level are not eligible — the degree is designed as a conversion or specialisation, not a repeat.
- check_circle No work experience is required. Graduates of Colombo, Peradeniya, Moratuwa, Jayewardenepura, SLIIT, NSBM and the UK-affiliated programmes in economics, mathematics, statistics, engineering, computing and quantitative business are the natural feeders.
- check_circle Personal statement, CV, transcripts and references; a £2,000 tuition deposit secures the place and is offset against fees.
English Proficiency
- check_circle IELTS Academic: 6.5 Overall with no element below 6.0 for 2026 entry. For 2027 entry the requirement was lowered to 6.0 with no element below 5.5.
- check_circle TOEFL iBT and PTE Academic are accepted; Nottingham publishes the numeric equivalents on its central English-requirements page rather than the course page, so confirm your target score there before booking.
- check_circle GCSE, IB and O-level English are also listed among accepted qualifications — Sri Lankan Cambridge and Edexcel applicants should check whether their existing grade is sufficient before paying for IELTS.
- check_circle Nottingham's Centre for English Language Education runs presessional courses that satisfy the requirement where a score falls short; these start before the September intake and must be planned into the visa timeline.
- check_circle There is no blanket medium-of-instruction waiver for Sri Lankan degrees — confirm any exemption in writing before skipping the test.

Career Outcomes & PR
The UK Graduate Route allows master's graduates two years of unsponsored work after the course, which is long enough to move from a first analyst role into a sponsorable one. Nottingham names Allianz, Amazon, Boots, KPMG and Unilever among the employers its business-analytics graduates join — Boots has its global headquarters in Nottingham, and the East Midlands carries a substantial logistics and retail-analytics cluster. Typical roles are business analyst, data analyst, pricing and revenue analyst, supply-chain analyst, and analytics consultant. Sri Lankan returnees route into analytics, revenue-management and data-science functions at John Keells Holdings, MAS Holdings, Brandix, Hayleys, Dialog Axiata, Commercial Bank, HSBC SL, LSEG Technology and the Colombo advisory practices of the Big Four, where the optimisation and operational-research content is genuinely differentiating.
