MSc Artificial Intelligence
University of Edinburgh (School of Informatics)
Course Overview
Edinburgh's MSc in Artificial Intelligence is delivered by the School of Informatics — the UK's largest computer science department and the founding institution of British AI research (the school traces back to Donald Michie's 1963 Department of Machine Intelligence). Informatics is ranked top 10 globally for Computer Science (QS by Subject) and top 5 in Europe. The 12-month MSc lets students choose from 60+ advanced courses spanning machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, reinforcement learning, computer vision, knowledge representation, robotics, and AI ethics — with a 60-credit dissertation project typically conducted inside an active research group (recent: Centre for Doctoral Training in NLP, Bayesian ML, the Institute for Adaptive and Neural Computation).
Sri Lankan applicants choose Edinburgh AI because the school feeds directly into the UK's AI ecosystem (Google DeepMind, Wayve, Stability AI, Synthesia, Cohere London) and is one of only three UK universities with a credible PhD pipeline in foundation-model research alongside Cambridge and Oxford. The 1-year compressed format combined with the 2-year UK Graduate Route post-study makes this one of the most credentialled and time-efficient AI Master's options globally.
