MSc in Applied Computing (MScAC)
University of Toronto
Course Overview
The MScAC at U of T's Department of Computer Science is a 16-month industry-bridge degree: 8 months of taught graduate coursework in machine learning, data systems, and software engineering, followed by an 8-month paid internship at a Toronto tech partner. Industry placements pay CAD 6,000–9,000 per month and the partner network includes Google, Shopify, RBC Borealis AI, Layer 6, Vector Institute, Loblaw, and Wealthsimple.
Streams include Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Quantum Computing, and the general Computer Science track. The program is small (around 100 admits per cohort) and selective — Sri Lankan applicants typically need a high-GPA CS or maths background plus serious programming or research output. Almost everyone receives a full-time offer from their internship host before graduation.

Career Outcomes & PR
MScAC graduates qualify for the 3-year Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), and software roles map cleanly to Express Entry-eligible NOC TEER 0/1 codes — the standard PR pathway. The internship is the program's defining feature: over 90% of students receive a return offer from their host partner, with Google Canada, Shopify, RBC Borealis AI, Wealthsimple, TD Layer 6 AI, Cohere, and the Vector Institute repeatedly hiring Sri Lankan graduates. Starting salaries sit at CAD 90,000–110,000 in Toronto, rising fast in ML and quant roles.
