Course Overview
MITB at SMU's School of Computing and Information Systems is a 12-month conversion-friendly Master's that pairs technical depth (machine learning, data engineering, cloud) with business application. Sri Lankan IT graduates and working professionals from analytics, banking or operations roles use it to pivot into senior data-science or product roles in Singapore.
Three specialisation tracks: Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and Financial Technology. The Analytics track is the original SMU flagship — graduates routinely land roles at DBS, GovTech, Visa, and Shopee. Curriculum is project-based, with a capstone using real industry data sets.
Entry Requirements
Academic
- check_circle Bachelor's degree in any discipline; quantitative or technical backgrounds preferred.
- check_circle No GMAT/GRE required for most applicants; work experience is recommended but not mandatory.
- check_circle Two references and a personal statement.
- check_circle Programming or statistics coursework is a plus for the AI and Analytics tracks.
English Proficiency
- check_circle IELTS Academic: 6.5 Overall.
- check_circle TOEFL iBT: 90 Overall.
- check_circle Waived if your degree was taught entirely in English.

Career Outcomes & PR
MITB graduates qualify for a 1-year Long-Term Visit Pass to job-search in Singapore, with most converting to an Employment Pass (EP) within 6 months. Hiring is concentrated in banks (DBS, OCBC, UOB), tech (Shopee, Grab, Visa), and government agencies (GovTech, MAS, IMDA).
