Course Overview
The University of Sydney's Master of Teaching (Secondary) is a professional, accredited initial-teacher-education qualification delivered by the Sydney School of Education and Social Work at a Go8 university ranked in the QS global top 20. The two-year programme prepares graduates to teach two secondary subject areas (matched to your prior degree), combining pedagogy, educational psychology, curriculum and assessment, and inclusive education with 60+ days of supervised professional experience in NSW schools. The qualification meets the requirements for teacher accreditation in New South Wales and is recognised nationally.
Sri Lankan applicants who hold a Bachelor's degree with strong subject content — for example science, mathematics, English, or commerce graduates from Colombo, Peradeniya, Kelaniya, Sri Jayewardenepura, or NSBM — choose this Master's to qualify as registered secondary teachers. An English-medium Bachelor's typically supports an IELTS waiver, though teaching accreditation has its own higher English benchmark (see below). Graduates qualify for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) for post-study work, and teaching is on Australia's skilled-occupation lists in shortage areas.
