LLM (Master of Laws)

The City Law School's LLM sits inside City, University of London — a stone's throw from the Inns of Court, the Royal Courts of Justice and the City's commercial law firms. The flexible 12-month Master of Laws lets you specialise (Commercial Law, International Banking & Finance Law, Maritime Law, Public International Law, Dispute Resolution, Intellectual Property) or build a General LLM across modules. Taught by practitioners and academics, with optional dissertation, the LLM is recognised globally and trades heavily on its London location at the heart of English common law — the system Sri Lanka's commercial and contract law most closely mirrors.

Sri Lankan LLB graduates from the University of Colombo Faculty of Law, the Open University of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Law College, APIIT/Staffordshire, and the British-affiliated programmes at NSBM and ICBT treat a London LLM as the natural specialisation step before or after taking the Bar. London hosts the magic-circle and silver-circle firms (Clifford Chance, Linklaters, Allen & Overy, Slaughter and May) plus arbitration centres at the LCIA — direct exposure that an LLM cohort taps into. On the two-year UK Graduate Route, LLM graduates can stay to gain paralegal, compliance, legal-tech or in-house experience after the course.
