LLM Business Law
University College Cork
Course Overview
UCC's LLM in Business Law covers the law that actually governs how companies operate across borders: corporate law and governance, commercial contracts, competition and consumer protection, financial services regulation, employment law, and intellectual property and data protection — the last of which matters disproportionately in Ireland, where the EU lead supervisory authority for most large technology firms sits.
Cork is the practical argument. Tuition is roughly €6,500 a year below Dublin's equivalent and living costs are meaningfully lower, while the city hosts the Irish operations of Apple, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Eli Lilly, Stryker and a dense pharma and medtech cluster — which generates real regulatory, contract and employment work rather than a purely academic environment. UCC's School of Law is well regarded, cohorts are smaller than in Dublin, and staff access is correspondingly better. The 2-year Stamp 1G graduate permission applies exactly as it does elsewhere in Ireland.

Career Outcomes & PR
Graduates move into corporate and commercial practice in Cork and Dublin firms, in-house legal, compliance and data-protection roles across the pharmaceutical, medtech and technology employers clustered in Munster, and regulatory positions with Irish and EU agencies. The 2-year Stamp 1G graduate permission gives open labour-market access to convert the degree into experience. The LLM is an academic qualification and does not itself confer the right to practise in Ireland — Law Society or King's Inns routes are separate. Sri Lankan graduates come back into corporate legal and compliance teams at the listed conglomerates and banks, into commercial chambers, and increasingly into data-protection and technology-contract work as Sri Lankan companies take on EU-facing obligations.
