Course Overview
Western Law's JD is a three-year common-law degree designed to qualify graduates for bar admission in Ontario and across Canadian common-law provinces. Sri Lankan applicants apply through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OLSAS) and must sit the LSAT; international JD seats are limited (around 5–10% of each entering class of ~180).
The curriculum opens with foundational courses — Constitutional, Criminal, Contracts, Property, Torts, and Legal Research — and broadens in Years 2–3 with electives in business law (a real strength at Western), tax, international trade, and a mandatory upper-year writing requirement. Clinical opportunities include Pro Bono Students Canada, Community Legal Services, and the Sports Solution clinic.

Career Outcomes & PR
Western Law is one of the top feeders into Bay Street — the seven sister Toronto law firms (Blakes, Davies, Goodmans, McCarthy Tétrault, Osler, Stikeman Elliott, Torys) recruit heavily on campus. Around 92% of graduates secure an articling position within 6 months of call. JD graduates qualify for the 3-year PGWP and can move to PR via Express Entry once licensed. Note: practising law in Canada requires bar admission (NCA exams may apply if any coursework was completed outside Canada).
